Frequent Questions

How can I find an electronics recycling program?

EPA encourages use of electronics recyclers certified to standards that require safe handling of used electronics and adherence to high environmental standards. Currently two accredited certification standards exist: the Responsible Recycling Practices (R2) and the e-Stewards® standards. Visit the eCycling Certification page for more information.

To attain a list of R2 and e-Stewards certified recyclers, contact R2 Solutions and e-Stewards respectively. For a list of recyclers in your region, check with your state environmental or natural resources agency. If you are a homeowner, you should check with your local municipality or solid waste district to learn if there are electronics collection programs or events in your community. The Consumer Electronics Association and Earth 911 websites identify electronic equipment recyclers in many areas around the country.
