Frequent Questions

What types of problems might a generator or transporter encounter during the collection, transportation and storage of non-hazardous recyclable materials?

EPA encourages recycling and reuse practices and supports local efforts to promote recycling however, EPA does not require the general public or private companies to recycle their solid waste. Recycling programs are developed by individual states, and in many cases individual communities and businesses. Problems that are encountered within individual recycling programs will depend on factors specific to that recycling program.

For more information on recycling problems encountered by a state please contact the state solid waste contact. The Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery (ORCR) has compiled a list of waste program Web sites maintained by EPA Regional offices and state environmental agencies to help users locate site-specific information on RCRA facilities within their states.
