EPA does not require the use of any particular treatment technology to achieve concentration-based standards. Concentration-based standards are performance standards reflecting the performance achieved by best demonstrated available technology. A facility owner or operator can use any technology or combination of technologies, not otherwise prohibited (e.g., impermissible dilution), to achieve these standards (53 FR 31138; August 17, 1988).
Does EPA require a facility owner or operator to use a specific treatment technology to treat a waste with concentration-based treatment standards?
